LMM00.00 is out!

Monday, December 12, 2005

Exciting news!!!

A pre-alpha gui-based LMM minifig animator is on its way. Hopefully I'll have something to show before the end of the year. It's looking like it has a great potential.

I've re-started development of the LMM minifig animation tool. Several of the issues that brought it to a halt about a year ago have been fixed. The new emphasis will be on usability. Meaning, there wont' be even a need to even fire up L3P or POVray - LMM will do it all for ya as long as you provide a ldraw file!

Check here for updates, although they might still take some time ...

If you're already familiar with using sine curves in POVray, this page discusses some other ways to produce non-linear animations for different purposes.

POV-Ray Tips: Animation

(if you're NOT familiar with using sine curves in POVray, you might want to check this page first).

If you have POVray installed, you might want to check this "port" of Blobman to Lego minifig. Early but exciting!

Tmsuk, Inc is a Japanese robotics company with some rather interesting products, like the T522 Enryu.

I'm currently writing a tutorial on POVray for Ldraw users and in the process of doing so, I'm revisiting some excellent POVray-related material, including the links below:

City Generator Include File for POVray.

Blobman Set of POV-Ray macros that generate a humanoid figure from Blobs, the Head, Arms, Legs, Hands, Feet and Fingers can all be positioned. Hair of varying styles can be added if required, as an image_map for each limb segment.

Gilles Tran produces beautiful pictures with POVray.
Warning - Some of Gilles Tran's pages contain artistic full frontal nudity.

The newest -working-but-still-Alpha- version of Jahshaka is out. This open source app provides (or strives to anyway) REALTIME editing and effects, pointing at the future of digital media development in several ways at once. Combine 3d models with video footage, sound, text, still images, visual effects, etc. and see the results in real-time. Flash meets after effects meets blender. It really blows your mind away!

This tutorial will come handy if you want to give it a spin.

BTW, a more stable but less powerful and equally free video composer is Zwei Stein.

My entry won the January Scene of the Month contest at ldraw.org! I hope to have a tutorial at some point. In the meantime, you might want to take a look at Forester ... and potentially Terragen. Both are shareware, but the free versions have enough features to keep anyone busy for a while ...
